AISAppointment Information - Service

Appears after SCH in SIU and SRM scheduling messages. One AIS per service required for the appointment.

The AIS segment identifies a service that is required for an appointment, such as a clinical service, room type, or procedure. Multiple AIS segments can appear for appointments requiring multiple services.

Real-World Context

AIS defines what actually needs to happen at the appointment. In radiology scheduling, AIS carries the procedure code and whether contrast is needed. In OR scheduling, AIS identifies the procedure(s) to be performed. If the wrong procedure shows up in the modality worklist, the AIS segment is where the error originated.
