RXE — Pharmacy/Treatment Encoded Order
Appears in RDE (pharmacy encoded order) messages. Generated by the pharmacy system after order verification.
The RXE segment contains the pharmacy-verified and encoded order details after pharmacist review. It carries the pharmacist's interpretation of the original order including specific drug, dose, and instructions.
Real-World Context
RXE is what the pharmacy actually plans to dispense after their clinical review. The give code in RXE.2 may differ from the ordered code in RXO.1 if the pharmacist made a therapeutic substitution. If nurses report receiving a different drug than what was ordered, compare RXO.1 (ordered) with RXE.2 (encoded) to see whether a substitution occurred that was not communicated.
