PD1 — Patient Additional Demographics
Optionally follows PID in ADT messages. Not required in most basic ADT interfaces but critical for care coordination and public health interfaces.
The PD1 segment carries supplemental patient demographic information that does not fit in the PID segment, including living situation, primary care provider, advance directives, and immunization registry status.
Real-World Context
PD1 is where care coordination data lives. The primary care provider in PD1.4 is critical for care transitions and referral workflows. If care management applications show patients without an assigned PCP, verify PD1.4 is populated in the ADT feed. Advance directive codes in PD1.15 drive end-of-life care decision support.
